FEIZI XIAOTea Varietal

This intriguing varietal is sometimes literally translated as Concubine’s Smile (or laugh). However, this doesn’t quite capture the feeling in Chinese. The tea is named after a type of lychee fruit, which is called Feizi Xiao (妃子笑) - a fruit that was so loved by a famously beautiful royal consort that it always made her smile. The natural lychee aroma in this unscented black tea must be the inspiration for all fruit-flavored black teas!

Fei Zi Xiao refers to a juicy and aromatic varietal of lychee that this tea evokes. The Li family grows a very small grove of Fei Zi Xiao bushes on the hillside of a beautiful valley along the Longchuan Gorge that fills with mist to naturally shade the tea from morning sun. After hand-picking this tea they finish the fresh leaves at their dedicated black tea workshop attached to the ancestral family home in the Tongmu Reserve. Through environmental conservation, the Li Family cultivates fully organic tea, creating a habitat for native birds to keep the insect population under control. The biodiversity translates into sweeter and more complex tea.
