TieguanyinTea Varietal

Master Zhang is proud to be sharing true Tieguanyin varietal oolong, fed by mountain spring water and grown without pesticides or fertilizers under the high mountain mist. Most Tieguanyin sold is actually Benshan or other similar varietals which lack the long drawn out aftertaste of Tieguanyin. The biodiversity of Daping lends complexity and depth of flavor to this tea, and the compelling combination of fresh aroma, clean flavor and compelling aftertaste make this a must-try.

Tieguanyin, or Iron Goddess of Mercy is one of the most famous oolong teas in the world. The Tieguanyin varieties has been growing in Anxi for hundreds of years, and Master Zhang still cultivates true Tieguanyin varieties on his high elevation plot high above Daping Village. While the older style of Tieguanyin was partially fired and oxidized, this modern style Tieguanyin is green, vibrant and intensely sweet and floral. Master Zhang’s meticulous 30+ hour hand-finishing process brings out rich deep florals and creamy texture from this tea. He has devoted his life to refining organic farming techniques and utilizes clean sustainable farming. His. Much Tieguanyin sold outside China is a mix of other varietals like Benshan and Huang Jin Gui that are more immediately aromatic without as much coaxing. Master Zhang uses true Tieguanyin, and unlike many producers, he finishes and rolls his oolong entirely by hand. This green modern oolong is a perfect bridge into the complexity of oolong teas for people used to the light subtlety of green teas looking for something thrilling.
